Event: Sustainable wood-fuel value chains for food security in Sub-Saharan Africa

As part of the project Governing Multifunctional Landscapes (GML), the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) is hosting an online event at the upcoming Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) to discuss how to promote more sustainable wood-fuel value chains across Sub-Saharan Africa.

One of the most important contributions of forests to food security in Africa is the provision of wood fuel. About 60 percent of households use charcoal or firewood to cook, boil water, and preserve food. But unsustainable production and trade is depleting and degrading the continent’s forests and trees.

The 90-minute session will address the main opportunities and challenges of making wood fuel more sustainable, governance solutions for wood fuel to positively contribute to food security and livelihoods, and different technical options that are being tested across the value chain.

When: 3 June 2020, 2 pm CEST
