GML to participate at Global Landscapes Forum in Accra

An interactive session will be held during the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) Accra 2019 on 30 October 2019 (time be confirmed).

The event represents a follow up to the 1st and the 2nd Dialogues on Forest Landscape Restoration and Bioenergy held respectively, on Dec 1st, 2018 in Bonn during the “2018 Global Landscapes Forum” and in Lisbon, on May 28th 2019, during the “27th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition”. The final goal of these series of dialogues is to facilitate raising awareness and exchange of ideas/information among stakeholders from both Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) and Bioenergy communities, with a view to intensify opportunities for collaboration, and to develop a joint agenda for action around sustainable Bioenergy and FLR.

This 3rd dialogue focus on key success factors and best practices in Africa that determine a positive contribution of Sustainable Wood Energy to FLR – and vice versa. In particular, the event will provide an insight into successful examples of synergies between Sustainable Wood Energy and FLR in the continent of Africa, in order to understand what approaches are effective, how and when these can be scaled-up and replicated elsewhere.

Furthermore, the event will share knowledge on the various multifaceted approaches adopted to improve sustainable local production and use of wood energy, to develop sound planning for sustainable landscapes and rural development, as means to meet both the SDGs, UNCCD, the CBD and the Paris Climate Agreements and other related international goals such as the Bonn Challenge, the AFR100 and the NYDF.

This event is hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP), the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) and the FAO Forestry Department in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), International Energy Agency Bioenergy Technology Collaboration Program (IEA Bioenergy), IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).
