Climate change

CIFOR works at the nexus of climate change, energy and low-carbon development to support countries as they ramp up to meet their commitments under the Paris Agreement.

From research on REDD+ implementation to land-use change to wetland carbon stores, CIFOR has long worked to support policy-makers and practitioners with the information, analysis and tools they need to design and implement sensible and efficient climate policies and practices.

Facts:

  • 2 billion tonnes of CO2 are absorbed by forests each year
  • Up to 20% of all GHG emissions are caused by deforestation and land-use change — more than the world’s entire transport sector
