With a PhD on forest sciences (2002), Rosa Maria is a tropical ecologist with 20 years of experience on tropical forest carbon dynamics and ecosystem resilience to disturbances such as fire and more recently hurricanes. She is an Alexander Von Humboldt fellow since 2007, and her work has a focus on quantifying land use emissions and developing strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation at national scales. She takes a particular interest in forest monitoring systems (MRV), carbon balances, and mitigation mechanisms such as REDD+ and NDCs. Her work aims at supporting policy development by data provision and capacity building. She is well acquainted with the UNFCCC framework and principles, and IPCC guidelines, having been invited to several TSU-IPCC expert meetings
