Roland has a MSC degree on sustainable energy science from Utrecht University where he focussed on carbon capture and storage. For his current PhD research however, he uses drones to measure greenhouse gas and aerosol emission factors. Over the past three years, he has been collecting a large dataset of measurements of EF and fuel conditions, capturing both temporal and spatial variability in Brazilian and Southern African savanna fires. His study is aimed at finding out what drives the variability in biomass burning emission factors, and how we can better capture this variability in regional to global emission models.
