Bas Louman

Bas joined Tropenbos International in 2018 as programme coordinator for TBIs programme on inclusive finance for sustainable landscapes and to coordinate the TBI implementation of its partnership with the CGIAR research and development programme Forest, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA).

Bas came to Tropenbos with more than 30 years of working experience in the tropics, in particular related to training in and research on different aspects of responsible management of natural forests in Latin America and some experience in Papua New Guinea. He worked with companies, governments, indigenous people and local communities. As natural forest management specialist he participated in several national and international networks set-up to address the new challenges that forests have faced over the years: community forestry, forest certification, REDD+, forest landscape restoration and technical support to create responsive capacities to climate change.

Bas is convinced of the role that forests and trees can play in countries’ efforts to combat climate change if local people are engaged in designing and implementing those ambitions. He hopes that through his work in TBI he will be able to stimulate investments in sustainable forest landscapes and contribute to countries scaling up the ambitions of their climate action by supporting inclusive and integrated landscape initiatives.
