The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) is making available exclusive rare footage of the critically endangered Javan leopards (Panthera pardus melas) in their native habitat in western Java. Camera traps placed in an Indonesian national park recently captured striking, high-quality images of these elusive, enigmatic creatures in the wild as part of a research project to help monitor wildlife in an area less than 100 kilometers outside of Jakarta.
Media are invited to use the video footage, which can be found here: http://vimeopro.com/ciformedia/gunung-halimun-national-park (Password: ciformedia)
Photos of the leopard and other rare species can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cifor/sets/72157633482953564
Soon to be published are two feature stories in addition to a full-length video, which also documents the Zoological Society of London’s surprising discovery of the body of a tiger in the Sumatran jungle – the unintended victim of a trapper.
