Indonesia forced to act as wildfire haze chokes South-East Asia

Wildfires are an annual occurrence during the dry season in Indonesia and are responsible up to 10 per cent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions each year. Most of the fires are the result of slash-and-burn practices – a cheap way to clear land and destroy native forests for palm oil and timber plantations.
