The Politics of Haze

Before we start pointing more fingers at Malaysia and Singapore, it is important to understand the politics of fire that is  perpetuating the vicious cycle of the haze crisis. Professor Dr. Herry Purnomo a scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in an interview with online radio DurianAsean said  that the locals who are burning the forests and peatlands are paid handsomely, and most relied on this as their sole income. These companies also bribe government officers to ensure that the burnings continue year after year.
