Natural resource conflict in the Korup area and the politics of indigenousness

The people of Esukotan avoid Babi village on their way to Nigerian markets. Likewise are Babi villagers afraid to enter the forest let alone the village of Esukotan. Cooperation between the villages in trade and natural resource management has come to a standstill and family members are cut off from each other. Although the conflict situation at first sight seems to be a localised and isolated event, a complex history of migration, trade and identity formation should be taken into account to fully understand the issue at play.
