Partner Day is the flagship event to demonstrate the Indonesia government and CIFOR’s commitment to applying scientific research and evidence to tropical forest preservation and conservation.
Working in partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, CIFOR has invested more in 90 research projects in Indonesia, many of which have been linked to similar research projects around the world. These projects have informed the Indonesia government and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to develop policies that foster the sustainable management of forests, the biodiversity they embrace and the improved livelihoods of forest communities, while contributing to Indonesia’s development objectives. CIFOR and the Government of Indonesia signed a Host Country Agreement (HCA) on 15 May 1993.
The focus of the event will be science research collaboration and technology and how Indonesia and CIFOR scientists can play a greater role in sustainable forest management and policy issues. Specifically, the event is to highlight the successful cooperation between Indonesia and CIFOR at international fora to promote a vision of sustainability for tropical forests and landscapes.
- To share insights and research opportunities between Government of Indonesia and CIFOR, alongside research partners and the sector’s key decision makers
- To enable Indonesia and CIFOR to share and promote relevant research findings including global cooperation in forest-related research include sustainable use of tropical forests
- To enhance the importance of working closely with research institutions, academia and universities nationally, regionally and internationally to strengthen forestry research capacity in Indonesia
- To ensure tangible contributions toward efforts to maintain the well-being of the world’s tropical forests while ensuring the livelihood of the people who depend on them
Partner Day would be one important agenda alongside CIFOR-ICRAF annual meeting where scientists from regional offices will also participate in research agenda program within the week.
