Forests and People: Investing in a Sustainable Future

7 - 11 September 2015, Durban, South Africa
| |

Constraints and opportunities for novel evaluation approaches of forest-based interventions and policies: learning from the past

Finding ways to minimize policy failures related to forests and their contribution to sustainable development requires a sound analysis of lessons learned from past initiatives – both successes and failures. The field of impact evaluation in forestry faces major challenges in disentangling the positive and negative impacts of specific factors, such as policies and economic and trade forces.

Speakers at this side event will present two case studies highlighting advances in the field of impact evaluation, and argue for the continuing importance of these often-difficult discussions.
