Non-Timber Forest Products

CIFOR is studying how trade and investment in non-timber forest products can boost local livelihoods, improve biodiversity and generate economic benefits to society.

Fruits, nuts, honey, resins, charcoal and natural medicines are only a handful of the many forest products that people have been collecting and harvesting for centuries. But these traditions are being lost as forests are cleared for commodity crops and mining.

CIFOR works to help develop the production and marketing of non-timber forest products in ways that can improve smallholder livelihoods while promoting sustainable forest management.
