Landscapes and their multiples functions were the focus of discussions led by scientists from the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) on the sidelines of this month’s global climate talks in Bonn, Germany.
At COP23 – the 23rd Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – CIFOR scientists presented their latest findings on the relationship between gender, rights and forest landscape restoration; collective action on peatlands; and progress on REDD+, while promoting conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks in developing countries.
Bringing a landscape perspective to the challenges of climate change mitigation and adaptation, CIFOR scientists emphasized the importance of land and forests to meeting global goals. The role of rights – for communities, for indigenous peoples and for women – was also highlighted as an urgent priority for global action on climate.
