The story of palm oil is also one of migrant labour. When the Dutch first introduced oil palms to south-east Asia, by far the world’s largest producer of palm oil today, they also brought migrants from India and China to cultivate the plantations. On Wednesday 17 February 10am GMT a group of experts will join us to discuss various issues. One of the panel is Pablo Pacheco, a principal scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research based in Bogor, Indonesia. His main research areas cover public and private governance arrangements, sustainable value chains, finance and investment, corporate commitments to sustainability, landscape transformation and agrarian change, and sustainable development.
