Indonesia proposes logging ban as floods devastate degraded areas

A commercial logging moratorium in Indonesia’s critically degraded forests was yesterday proposed by the country’s environment minister, following widespread flooding blamed on illegal logging. Forestry experts said enforcement would be the key to the policy’s success. “The government is doing some good things to try and to solve these issues but the problem is the law enforcement on the ground,” said Greg Clough of the Indonesia-based Centre for International Forestry Research.
