Land degradation is a pressing issue in Central Asia. The region is strongly affected by climate change. The demise of the Aral Sea is one of the world’s most infamous environmental catastrophes. Many attempts have been made by local and international organizations to reverse or slow down environmental degradation in the Aral Sea watershed. To introduce new technologies and innovative approaches to the Aral Sea Watershed, a disruptive technology challenge for landscape restoration will be organized.
One of the main outcomes of this challenge is to foster an ecosystem for innovation on Landscape Restoration within the region. It is therefore important to establish an extended network of partnerships for the implementation this challenge. Communication efforts will play a key role for the successful implementation of this challenge. A vast outreach and dissemination capacity will bring new knowledge to the region and potentially expand existing knowledge networks. As the challenge will be entirely online due to COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to streamline digital collaboration amongst all partners involved in the organization of the challenge.
In support of this challenge CIFOR provides technical assistance in the field of communications and dissemination through an extensive global network and experience in the field of landscape restoration as well as assist the challenge team with the implementation of the communication strategy. Additionally we assist the team on the implementation of other aspects of the challenge.
