The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is an operating entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement. The GCF Secretariat is currently defining an integrated framework for nature-based solutions (NBS). It is also proposing sector-specific approaches to help countries and proposal developers to identify the paradigm shift needed and translate this into high-quality and impactful projects and programs. GCF's NBS framework covers four sectors across mitigation and adaptation: forest and land use; agriculture and food security; water; and ecosystems and ecosystem services.
With this project, CIFOR supports the development of GCF's NBS framework and sectoral guidance on forests and land use and ecosystem services. The development of such guidance is led by GCF's forest and land use and ecosystem services teams . It is facilitated and supported by CIFOR to ensure contact validation and proofing through a wider network of experts and stakeholders, while increasing overall coherence with other international and major country-driven efforts.
The project is expected to lead to the following outcomes:
- A document on NBS that provides an integrative framework for the four sectors working with natural resources
- Sectoral guidance for the sectors: forest and land use and ecosystems and ecosystem services.
