FAO is exploring the development of a generic framework for assessing vulnerability for forest ecosystems and forest communities to climate change. The framework will be flexible enough to be adapted to varying scenarios.
The main purpose of this framework is to identify and describe the elements that should be considered in assessing vulnerability of forest ecosystems and communities and to outline a structured approach for conducting these assessments.
The framework will build upon the existing body of knowledge related to forest management, climate change adaptation and vulnerability assessments. The framework will be developed through a multi-stakeholder process, involving technical experts and key stakeholders from civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and international organizations. The draft framework will be made available for feedback to a wider set of experts through various consultation mechanism including COP24.
