This project involves the engagement of a postdoctoral social science researcher to work together with CIFOR scientists. The social science specialist will:

1. Increase the base of well-prepared gender scientists at CIFOR who are specialized in transformative gender research that assesses the factors that affect rural women and men in the process of large-scale land investments, drawing on cross-CGIAR Research Program (CRP) research on gender and norms and Prices, Institutions and Market’s (PIM’s) research on property regimes;

2. Strengthen CRP Forests, Trees and Agroforestry’s (FTA’s) research on agribusiness investments in forested landscapes drawing on and contributing to PIM’s and Water, Land and Ecosystem’s (WLE’s) research on the impacts of large-scale land and water investments on women;

3. Fill a knowledge gap in the literature on the gendered effects of large-scale land and water investments; and

4. Offer evidence-based policy and program options to policy-makers and practitioners on how to maximize the benefits and mitigate the costs of large-scale land investments for rural women and men.
