1.to facilitate the sharing of experience on forest governance and decentralization across latin america, to evaluate progress made in different countries with decentralization, and distil general trends and lessons
2.to identify and discuss recent trend and emerging issues especially those relating to conservation, landscape management, trade, tenure, rights, livelihoods and land use change
3.to analyse the implications of these trends and issues for the development and implementation of national forest programs (nfps) and REDD strategies, policies and measures by countries in the region
4.to identify strategies for nfps and REDD to address the issuess, and options for coordinates regioal or sub-regional policy responses.
