Improving economic outcomes for smallholders growing teak in agroforestry systems in Indonesia

The project aimed to enhance the role of smallholders in teak production in Indonesia by identifying impediments to involvement, and identified means to alleviate those impediments, by improving livelihoods of smallholders. Through this research and development (R&D) project, we introduced and adapted silvicultural technologies that improve returns for smallholder teak producers, identified and designed financing schemes that provide incentives for smallholder participation in profitable teak production, and enhanced market access by smallholder teak producers.
