This research is aimed at assessing the ways in which policy and governance conditions can manage the increasing demand in biomass without raising direct or indirect land use changes. Emphasis is placed on exploring whether and to what extent consumer countries can produce or import raw materials for biofuel production in the future without leading to major indirect land uses by analyzing different policy scenarios in regions which are decisive for biomass production such as Brazil, Indonesia and Ukraine. The main goal is to identify which policy scenario will lead to which rooms for maneuver for managing additional biofuel demand with positive impacts on sustainable land use and economic growth.
