The aim of the project is to bring together under one umbrella the various on-going and prospective CIFOR forest research efforts frelate to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Within CIFOR, the initiative will provide a framework for cross-program collaborationl externally, the initiative will enable CIFOR to communicate its niche in the climate change and forests policy research arena to partners, donors, and target audiences.
Expected output:
Research reports on objectives and strategies for required policy reforms, governance and institutional mandates, including national policy approaches for REDD. These are to be delivered as indicated in CIFOR's Medium Term Plan.
On average, partipication in four workshops/seminars per year with Finnish focal points and institutions.
Participation in the meetings of the Adaptation Fund Board.
Planning and design of training workshops envisaged to be organised in Asia and Africa including training material for workshops, for consideration by CIFOR and potential partners, specific topics include:
- national policy approaches for REDD
- methods of determining baselines and monitoring the change of carbon pools, especially with regard REDD
- policies and practices for adaptation to climate change
