Impacts of Large-Scale Land Acquisitions on Local Women’s Land and Forest Tenure Rights: Case Studies from Indonesia

In this project CIFOR is developing a series of three case studies and a synthesis report documenting the gender‐differentiated impacts of large-scale land acquisitions (LSLAs) in Indonesia. The project is building on an ongoing CIFOR study as part of a broader research program on the gender responsiveness of regulatory mechanisms in the oil palm sector, and the efficacy and inclusivity of zero deforestation pledges. As part of this project, CIFOR is conducting further in‐depth research into the types of questions raised by the Rights and Resources Initiative’s (RRI’s) review of the literature on the issue. Funds provided by the RRI are also enabling CIFOR to partner with leading researchers working on the impact of large-scale land acquisitions and tenure rights, including those based at the University of Brighton and the University of Indonesia. This support is also enabling CIFOR to analyze existing datasets to build a deeper, historical perspective of the ongoing analysis.
