Contributions to The Economics of Ecosystem Restoration (TEER) initiative

The Economics of Ecosystem Restoration (TEER) initiative was launched by FAO, the CGIAR Research program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) and other partner organizations , in order to constitute a global database that could serve as a reference point for decision-makers and restoration practitioners, for the ex-ante estimation of costs and benefits of future restoration projects in all major biomes and across a wide range of contexts worldwide, based on information from comparable projects on which data has been collected through a standardized framework. In that perspective, TEER partner organizations agreed to develop a template to collect detailed information in order to characterize as precisely as possible restoration projects, their context and baseline, their costs and benefits with the view to meet a twofold objective: • allow comparisons across projects operated in similar contexts in order to facilitate estimations of costs and benefits of future projects; • make the use of this template as easy as possible to project managers, taking into account the information available to them as well as resources and time constraints.
