Douglas Sheil

Douglas Sheil's training is in forest ecology, management and conservation. His research interests are multidisciplinary and address the assessment and management of biodiversity and ecological processes in changing forest landscapes. His main field experience is in East Africa and Southeast Asia. He worked at CIFOR from 1998 to 2008 and led CIFOR’s Multidisciplinary Landscape Assessment and Life After Logging activities among others. He also co-authored the widely used book: Tropical Rain Forest Ecology, Diversity and Conservation published by Oxford University Press (see http://ukcatalogue.oup.com/product/9780199285884.do). After leaving CIFOR Douglas was director of the Institute of Tropical Forest Conservation (ITFC) based in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Southwest Uganda, and a visiting professor in Southern Cross University in Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. For seven years he was a professor at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). Since January 2021 he heads the Forest Ecology and Forest Management group at Wageningen in the Netherlands (see https://www.wur.nl/en/newsarticle/Douglas-Sheil-appointed-professor-of-Forest-Ecology-Management.htm ).
