Food security with its four pillars – availability, access, utilization and stability – is a global concern, which ranges from chronic hunger to overnutrition. Adding to the situation is stressors with significant outcomes, such as growing populations and environmental and climate changes.

Many food security experts have been calling for agricultural intensification in developing countries to feed a growing global population. This narrative is based on a narrow view of food security focused on calories and neglects issues of dietary quality.
