The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in December 2009 calling for a UN Conference on Sustainable Development to be convened in Brazil in 2012 (also referred to as Rio+20). The resolution establishes the dates for the preparatory committees leading to the event, and indicates the event should focus on a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, and the institutional framework for sustainable development.
