The Government of the People’s Republic of China, through the State Forestry Administration, the Governments of Germany and the United Kingdom and the European Commission have the pleasure to announce that they will hold a high-level international conference on Forest Law Enforcement and Governance in Beijing on 19-20 September 2007.
The conference will be open to government representatives from major timber producing countries as well as major wood consuming countries, scientific experts and various stakeholders (in business, non-governmental organisations etc.). It will examine ways to achieve sustainable forest management by improving forest law enforcement and governance and achieve sustainable global trade and markets for forest products, using tools such as forest certification, legality verification schemes and procurement policies.
Presentations and discussions will focus on three themes:
- Forest law enforcement and governance in sustainable management of global forests
- Sustainable trade of forest products
- Current means to promote sustainable forest management and information sharing
