CIFOR at FLARE Twitter Conference 2020

Tuesday, 27 October 09:00 ET / 20:00 GMT+7

The Forests and Livelihoods: Assessment, Research and Engagement Network (FLARE) hosted by the University of Michigan is conducting a Twitter Conference @FLAREglobal, the first of its kind, on 26-30 October with the theme ‘Reimagining Forests and Livelihoods during Turbulent Times.’

As a nod to FLARE’s groundbreaking event, our very own CIFOR Principal Scientist Anne Larson (Team Leader, Equal Opportunities, Gender Justice & Tenure) completes the roster of distinguished plenary speakers through an exciting @CIFOR Twitter Takeover happening on 27 October at 09:00 ET / 20:00 GMT+7 with her presentation on ‘Transformational Change: Of What and For Whom’?

Join us in this innovative format of online conferences and engagement!

Abstract

Transformative Change: of what and for whom?

There is a lot of talk about the need for transformational change in forests and forest landscapes, especially in light of the climate crisis and COVID-19. But less attention is paid to justice. Who will win and lose from transformational change? Will indigenous peoples and local communities be (further) sidelined in the interest of urgency?

This presentation draws on science and values, agroecology principles, “designing for engagement” and Raworth’s “safe and just space for humanity” to argue that we need to commit to principles of sustainability AND justice and equality.
