The world is getting most of its energy in ways that endanger the climate and the environment. At the same time, the developing world does not have adequate energy supplies to improve the economic well-being of its people. For example, there is wide discussion about the energy implications of development in China, but what are the alternatives for sustainable energy supply for emerging and developing economies and what does the landscape need to provide? This session addressed the challenge of economic development and environmental security and looked at whether energy problems can be solved by technology and the role of forests as part of the solutions.
