To celebrate the renewal of collaborative research activities between the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the Forestry and Environment Research Development and Innovation Agency, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Republic of Indonesia (FOERDIA), a Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony themed “A new paradigm for forest research and development on the world stage,” will be held.

Lasting five years, the MOU officially recognizes CIFOR and FOERDIA’s ongoing cooperation, which started in 1997. The main goal of the partnership is to produce scientific knowledge and practical applications that can be used by government agencies, practitioners and other interested users.

In recognition of a new global collaborative tropical peatlands research initiative, Indonesian Environment and Forestry Minister HE Siti Nurbaya will officially launch the International Tropical Peatlands Center (ITPC) interim secretariat office, located at the CIFOR Bogor office. The interim secretariat will be hosted by Indonesia and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The interim secretariat will lay the foundations for the ITPC, which will begin operating in 2019 with a mission of bringing researchers, governments, civil society and other stakeholders together to ensure the conservation and sustainable management of peatlands throughout Southeast Asia, the Congo Basin and Peru.

Additionally, there will be a one-hour interactive discussion, “Four years of challenges (2015 – 2018) social forestry and forestland tenure in Indonesia,” which will feature expert speakers giving short presentations, followed by a moderator-led question and answer period.

The event will be held on 9.00 – 12.00, 26 February 2019, Global Forestry Hall at CIFOR Campus in Bogor, Indonesia.
