Behaviour Change for Resilient Livelihood and Food Security Research Assistant

Overview

The research assistant will be assisting studies related to food security and nutrition coordinated by CIFOR-ICRAF in Indonesia that may entail co-developing survey methods, organizing surveys, data analysis and publication, co-developing awareness raising campaign on healthy food and engaging with relevant policy processes.

The research assistant will also be responsible in assisting studies on behaviour change of stakeholders, in particular farmers and village institutions, who participate in ICRAF’s project interventions including food and nutrition studies, and agroforestry practices, The studies encompass development of method for research design, data collection and analysis for baseline and monitoring and strategy in improving adoption rate of interventions at the farmer levels.

Duties and responsibilities

     1. Research activities

A.     Support food security and nutrition (FSN) studies at CIFOR-ICRAF that includes but not limited to:

  • Co-design and organize surveys (household surveys, FGD, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain questionnaire in online data management platform
  • Monitor the implementation of surveys
  • Perform data cleaning and data analysis process
  • Co-develop materials for awareness raising campaign of healthy food
     B.     Support monitoring behavior change and participatory monitoring studies at CIFOR-ICRAF that includes but not limited to:
  • Co-design and organize surveys (household surveys, FGD, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain questionnaire in online data management platform
  • Perform baseline and post-intervention surveys
  • Monitor the implementation of surveys
  • Perform data cleaning and data analysis process
  • Actively involved in producing scientific publications based on the results from food security and nutrition studies and behavior change studies.

1   2. Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Co-develop budget for research activities in the field
  • Support writing up research activities for project outputs and reports
  • Liaise and engage with key people in partner institutions (govt., universities, etc.) to smoothen the progress of research activities, that may entail developing TORs for events and relevant communications.

     3. Knowledge Management and Capacity Building

  • Develop training materials for enumerators (in form of presentations, guidelines, or protocols)
  • Provide trainings to enumerators
  • Co-produce materials for awareness raising campaigns based on the result of research activities
  • Data analysis and writing
  • Co-supervise enumerators or students




Education, knowledge and experience

  • The incumbent should have at least a BSc (in Public Health, Psychology, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Economics, Rural Development, or any subject related to socioeconomics/environment/rural studies)
  • The incumbent should have minimum of 5(five) years’ experience in compiling, documenting and interviewing stakeholders to develop project reports and briefs in Agricultural or Rural Development projects.
  • Have sufficient knowledge and skills in food security, behaviour change and monitoring and evaluation concepts.
  • Have sufficient knowledge and skills in writing briefs and reports
  • Have sufficient experience in interviewing sets of people ranging from farmers, government staffs, academicians, and the private sectors.
  • Experience in conducting food and nutrition surveys is desirable.
  • Have basic administrative and documentation skills (including progress reporting).

  • Well organized; able to meet deadlines, good understanding of time management.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well in multi-cultural environment.
  • Willing to receive feedback from others

Terms and conditions

  • This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency, commensurate with skills and experience.
  • The appointment will be for 1 (one) year, inclusive of a three-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
  • The duty station will be in Bogor, Indonesia.
