Senior Research and Data Analyst
Overview
The Senior research and data analyst will join the Quality for Impact/ Results & Quality Measurement (Q4I-RQM) Unit and provide support at both project and institutional level. At project level, the position-holder will support CIFOR-ICRAF scientists and researchers in managing the lifecycle of research data resulting from projects, design and maintain database, run data modelling and data exploration research on the database, streamlining use and reuse of research data at CIFOR-ICRAF. The data analysis will explore what statistical relationships exist between a wide range of biophysical and socioeconomic variables. The position-holder will also develop data visualization tools and dashboards for the presentation of results and achievements. In particular, the position-holder will ensure timely, accurate, and complete data collection, imputing and reporting and provide recommendations on data improvements. At institutional level, the Senior research and data analyst will support the research quality monitoring function at CIFOR-ICRAF and the definition of suitable Quality of Research for Development (QoR4D) principles and criteria for CIFOR-ICRAF, applicable to projects, Transformative Partnerships Platforms (TPPs), Engagement Landscapes (ELs) and other initiatives.
This position will require working closely with scientists at all stages of the research cycle, including at project design phase, the Theme Leaders, the Q4I unit, the Knowledge, Information & Capacity (KIC) unit, the IT and web teams in the areas of institutional repositories, metadata services, and digital preservation.
Duties and responsibilities
Data
analysis
- Support project teams to
define data collection and analysis processes and reporting requirements
- Design and maintain
databases/ data systems
- Develop data forms and data
collection instruments (Kobo-ODK) for all field studies, including surveys
- Support data collection
operations in the field as required and prepare data for analysis
- Identify, analyse and
interpret trends or patterns in complex datasets
- Provide guidance, advice
and training in relation to data analysis and research quality monitoring
principles and contribute to the production of various guidelines
- Develop various data
visualization tools and dashboards based on reporting requirements
Research
analysis
- Develop and maintain a
database of research methods designed by and/or implemented across CIFOR-ICRAF
- Contribute to the
definition of suitable Quality of Research for Development (QoR4D) principles
and criteria for CIFOR-ICRAF, applicable to projects and other initiatives
- Contribute to the
monitoring of research quality across CIFOR-ICRAF portfolio and provide regular
reports as required
- Contribute to project and
institutional monitoring and evaluation systems
- Assist the research teams
and Q4I in drafting reports, papers, briefs as requested
- Other duties as directed
Education, knowledge and experience
- Master’s degree in Data science, Statistics, quantitative social science or related field. Comparable related experience may substitute for education,
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in using common qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, descriptive statistics, including data analysis tools & techniques (e.g., SPSS, Stata, NVivo, SAS, R, ArcGIS),
- Good understanding of some core skills: data mining, data visualization and exploratory data analysis
- Proven experience working on project delivery and monitoring and evaluation, understanding their key concepts, approaches and related data processes and reporting
- Aptitude to stay abreast of scientific research trends, methods, data documentation tools, and standards important for data exchange, reuse, and interoperability,
- Experience in handling web based management systems. Excellent IT skills and knowledge of GIS highly desirable.
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and/or English is required. Good command of French and/or Spanish is a plus

Terms and conditions
- This is a local position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency commensurate with skills and experience.
- The initial appointment will be for 1 (one) year, inclusive of a three-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
- The duty station will be in CIFOR Headquarters, Bogor, Indonesia, or ICRAF Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya.
