CIFOR-ICRAF
The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) envision a more equitable world where trees in all landscapes, from drylands to the humid tropics, enhance the environment and well-being for all. CIFOR and ICRAF are non-profit science institutions that build and apply evidence to today’s most pressing challenges, including energy insecurity and the climate and biodiversity crises. Over a combined total of 65 years, we have built vast knowledge on forests and trees outside of forests in agricultural landscapes (agroforestry). Using a multidisciplinary approach, we seek to improve lives and to protect and restore ecosystems. Our work focuses on innovative research, partnering for impact, and engaging with stakeholders on policies and practices to benefit people and the planet. Founded in 1993 and 1978, CIFOR and ICRAF are members of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food secure future dedicated to reducing poverty, enhancing food and nutrition security, and improving natural resources.

CIFOR-ICRAF is looking for a

Post-Doctoral Fellow, Development of Decision Support System for Mangrove Conservation and Rehabilitation

Overview

Monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) have been part of the accountability measures in sustainable natural resource management. Mangrove blue carbon is among crucial resources for nature-based climate solution as the ecosystems have high capacity in sequestering and storing atmospheric carbon. To evaluate whether mangrove conservation or rehabilitation are in the right direction, a large amount of data and information on biophysical, social, and economic attributes are key for the evaluation. In addition, governance system that enable the ecosystem functioning will have to be considered.

A computerized decision support system (DSS) is needed as a management tool for mangrove blue carbon conservation and rehabilitation. Characterized by its robust and adaptive nature the DSS should function as a tool to solve problems arise and provide suggestions during the course of program implementation.

Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked to develop and test the tool to demonstrate the robustness as well as the user-friendliness of the system. Working with big data requires specific approach and skill to extract them for meaningful analysis, interpretation, and construction of the system.
