East Nusa Tenggara Landscape Co-management and Restoration Facilitator


Indonesia Country Programme is currently implementing a five-year project entitled Sustainable Landscapes for Climate-Resilient Livelihoods in Indonesia (Land4Lives). The Project is funded by Global Affair Canada (GAC). The Project aims to increase Indonesia's economic and climate-resilience livelihoods and food security for poor and vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls. Land4Lives will be implemented in South Sumatra, South Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara.

The position will support Land4Lives to conduct participatory processes to plan, implement and monitor landscape restoration effort.

Duties and responsibilities

Under work package (WP) 1

  1. In coordination with WP 2 and WP 3, Landscape Co-management and Restoration Facilitator will support the development of policy related sustainable management and forest and land restoration by incorporating the data, analysis and agreed commitment among stakeholders have been conducted in the landscape level.
  2. Support the capacity strengthening activities to climate change mitigation and adaptation through better access to arable land and better technology to sustainably manage farms and landscapes
  3. In collaboration with spatial planning activities need to stock taking and analysis sustainable land management and restoration plan to understanding land use and development plans and develop robust recommendation for the policy development at district and province level as well as in technical work for land use simulation.

Under work package (WP) 2

  1. Conduct primary (i.e. ecosystem functions and services: water, carbon and biodiversity) and secondary data collection (i.e. ecosystem functions and services: water, carbon and biodiversity, High conservation value (HCV), High carbon stock (HCS); degraded areas, fire risk areas and other environmental hazards climate; climate and hydrology; watershed characteristics.
  2. Support series of focus group discussions process at landscape and sub-landscape on issues of restoration, management of water resources and watershed
  3. Support the process of establishment of restoration plan/activities related to water resources and watershed management at landscape level.
  4. Conduct and facilitate of outcome mapping and stakeholder analysis, including series of FGD at sub-landscape on issues of restoration and water resources and watershed management
  5. Maintain engagement with multi stakeholder at the sub-landscape level that already initiated by Land use planning Specialist.
  6. Provide documentation and report of all activities to supervisors and research team in Bogor
  7. Coordinate with WP3 on the implementation and monitoring

Under work package (WP) 3

  1. In coordination with the WP3 Leader, Agroforestry Systems Scientist, WP2 Leader, and Land Use Planning Officer implement project activities to achieve targets related to the co-management of forest, peat, and agricultural lands under Output 1323 (gender-sensitive materials for awareness and skill development programs)
  2. Conduct activities 1323.1 on gender-inclusive consultations and priority setting with stakeholders
  3. Conduct activities 1323.2 on gender-inclusive capacity building for stakeholders
  4. Conduct activities 1323.3 on gender-inclusive demonstration landscapes featuring sustainable utilization practices.

Education, knowledge and experience

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in agriculture, forestry, rural development and/or other related fields
  • Have a good representation and reputation to local stakeholders
  • Good analytical skills to support research works
  • Able to provide succinct field reports and produce communication products targeting local community
  • Minimum 3 (three) years of a successful work experience record in the subject area related to the rural development, agriculture, and forestry fields

Personal attributes and competencies

  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or any office application).
  • GIS analysis skill will be additional point
  • Basic administrative and documentation skills.
  • Strong character, a multitasking person who can work under pressure.
  • Well organized; able to meet deadlines, a good understanding of time management.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in multi-cultural teams.
  • Good knowledge of communication (Indonesian and English).
  • Willing to learn new skills/knowledge related to the scope/content of the specific projects.
  • Generates creative, practical approaches to overcome challenging situations.
  • Willing to receive feedback from others.
  • Has a vision to develop the organization and an intention of continuous improvement.

Terms and conditions

  • This is a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS) position. CIFOR-ICRAF offers competitive remuneration in local currency, commensurate with skills and experience.
  • The appointment will be for 1 (one) year, inclusive of a three-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources.
  • The duty station will be in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
