Bisrat Aklilu is a development economist with over 33 years of experience in agriculture and rural development (IFAD), development project implementation (UNOPS), and trust fund management and administration (UNDP).
At UNDP, he was the executive coordinator of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTF Office), which he established in 2004. Prior to that, he served as deputy executive director and director of operations at UNOPS (1996-2004) and managed the UNOPS IFAD Division (1990-1996) that supervised IFAD’s agricultural investment projects. He started his UN career in IFAD, Rome, in 1979 where he served as senior country portfolio manager. Aklilu received his PhD in economics in 1975 from Boston University, USA, and his MSc in agricultural economics from the University of Massachusetts, USA.
Since his retirement from UNDP in January 2013, Aklilu serves as an independent development professional and provides policy and operational advice to governments and multilateral organizations.
