The workshop was held in partnership with Internews, a Washington D.C.- based media training organization, and the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists and focused on the role of wetlands in climate change mitigation and adaption. The journalists were taken on a field trip to a mangrove forest in Nusa Lembongan and attended a press conference and the opening of Tropical Wetlands Ecosystem of Indonesia Conference. Participants gave feedback that they learned a great deal about climate change and the role wetlands in Indonesia play in mitigation and adaptation. “I was very surprised to know how wetlands can store carbon,” said one participant. “I think the field trip was great to show how wetland conservation can be really useful for the locals,” said another. At least 30 stories have been published from the workshop, field trip and press conference.
