Forests and People: Investing in a Sustainable Future

7 - 11 September 2015, Durban, South Africa

Vibrant and thriving social forestry in Southeast Asia for investing in a sustainable future

Although non-timber forest products represent a significant portion of income for nearly one billion people, economic interests from mining to oil palm cultivation are increasingly undermining this way of life. Now, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations is empowering forest-dependent communities to collaborate and form community forest enterprises, which also strengthen community cultures and tradition.

This event will showcase the success of ongoing cooperation in Southeast Asia through research, capacity building and development for livelihoods.
