Adaptation
Adaptation will be addressed in two different ways:
-
First,
by stimulating and guiding a regional policy dialogue through annual workshops. These workshops will address adaptation needs and opportunities, regional cooperation and will also consider the results of the research produced by TroFCCA.
-
Second,
by responding to adaptation needs and priorities after the application of TroFCCA’s methods. Adaptation strategies will focus on policies and other institutional systems already existing in the regions. The analysis of current institutional systems will be undertaken with a view to make recommendations to incorporate adaptation issues. TroFCCA staff will compile a manual on adaptation actions for tropical forest ecosystems as a guide for project developers.
After the application of the methods, phase 3 will try to answer to the following questions:
- How will expected impacts of climate change on forests hinder development?
- Which forest systems need to be managed and in what way to reduce vulnerability?
- What policy options are there to adapt?
- How can adaptation be incorporated in national policies?
- What is the role of different actors, including specifically the national government and the private sector?
- What message can be sent to the international community about vulnerability of biodiversity and feedback loops of climate change into carbon storage and sequestration?
