CIFOR's Occasional Paper 46:
Capturing Nested Spheres of Poverty

New Book:
Towards wellbeing in forest communities: a source book for local government.

Welcome to Indicators for Local Poverty Monitoring Website

This is a compilation of poverty and wellbeing indicators tested in various projects. If you are designing a survey questionnaire, you can use the database for getting new ideas or simply for checking the comprehensiveness of your own list of indicators.

The database is structured according to the NESP model of poverty and wellbeing (Nested Spheres of Poverty; see CIFOR Occasional Paper No. 46). The model can be represented by a concentric disc with subjective wellbeing in the centre, surrounded by core aspects of poverty and wellbeing-health, wealth and knowledge. The core is embedded in a multidimensional context that consists of the natural, economic, social and political spheres, as well as infrastructure and services. All indicators are ascribed to one or more spheres. So (for example), if you are only interested in health, please check the health sphere, while you will find environmental indicators in the natural sphere.

The quality and the richness of the database also depends on you. If you want to add new indicators, please use the 'Add new indicator' button. Add your input and your reference and make the database more useful. Thank you.
