The Malinau survey provided significant insight into "what is important
to communities living in tropical forest landscapes”. The MLA team wanted to
give back this information to the Malinau communities and help them
communicate their needs to other local stakeholders.
Together with the
Malinau communities, we also produced a film to document how they perceive and
use forests, how these uses may be changing, and may ultimately lead to
the destruction of the forest, and the loss of a rich culture and way of
life.
The films were
widely distributed among stakeholders in the district and beyond. They often
helped to initiate discussion regarding land use options for the district.
