Etudes
floristiques et ethnobotaniques dans un village de la zone forestiere du
Cameroun: cas de NKolbibanda. Master Thesis. (In French).
Dongmo, D.M.
Abstract:
The study was carried out in the village of Nkolbibanda, located North-
West of the Ottotomo forest reserve in the Ngoumou district, Mefou and
Akono division. Its purpose is to evaluate plant biodiversity and to bring
out the needs of local people concerning plant and land use systems (LUS).
The methods used were investigations near local informants for
ethnobotanical data on one side and a random sampling following the method
developed and tested by Sheil et al. within the framework of the floristic
inventories on the other one. One hundred samples, distributed in all the
LUS found in the village were taken, including 50 for herbaceous plants
and 50 for trees and shrubs. The herbaceous were listed, just as the trees
and shrubs with DBH equal to or greater than 10 cm.
The plants identified are distributed into 617 species, 378 genera and
111 families. The high values of the diversity indexes and the high
specific richness reveal the trend of a high floristic diversity.
The cocoa-plantations, the marsh and the old fallow were revealed as
being the most important LUS for local populations, from the diversity of
products obtained and that of the activities undertaken in those LUS. The
analysis of the uses of species mentioned on the IUCN red list of
endangered species on one hand and the list of the species to be protected
from the MINEP (former MINEF) on the other hand reveals that local
populations do not contribute to the overexploitation of these protected
species.
