Approach

In general approach and content, the methods closely followed the Indonesian one (see methods). One minor addition to the scoring exercises was the separate scoring done with children. Children participated by drawing the cards to be used in the scoring exercises for land types and forest products. This exercise was first done with the entire village and secondly with separate focus groups, one of which was a children's group.

A sample of cards of highly valued resources, drawn by children. Arroz = rice; 2 castaña = Brazil nuts; hanta = tapir

Another interesting addition to the method was a comparison of results on species abundance with existing, official data from the Reserve Authorities, who also participated in the survey activities.
