Multidisciplinary Lanscape Assessment

MLA Dissemination

The Malinau survey provided significant insight into "what is important to communities living in tropical forest landscapes”. The MLA team wanted to give back this information to the Malinau communities and help them communicate their needs to other local stakeholders.

We first prepared four posters and a set of playing cards for that purpose and later produced a film. Our information also contributed to the new environmental education curriculum for the district.

Promoting MLA in Indonesia

The MLA team also used every opportunity to present the approach and show the film to institutions  (e.g. universities, the Ministry of Forestry, the State Ministry for the Environment) and NGOs around Bogor and Jakarta. We introduced these audiences to the MLA approach, presented examples of applications, a range of results and showed our attractive and informative dissemination materials. If there was enough time, we showed the film as well. A short questionnaire was given to the audience to find out their response to the movie. A third session on each occasion was a discussion for sharing ideas, collecting feedback, comments and other suggestions concerning the approach as well as the film. We usually distributed publications to the audience.

In the last two years (2006-2007), we were giving presentations and training in local universities, NGO, conservation agency, logging company all around Indonesia several universities as follow:

  • Tanjungpura University of Pontianak

  • Hasanuddin University of Makasar

  • Sumatra Utara University of Medan

  • Riau University of Pekanbaru
