Co-management of renewable natural resource on a coastal
zone
Introduction
For the Palawan site, the CIFOR - CIRAD team and the University of the
Philippines Los Baños Foundation Inc. (UPLB DFI) worked together on developing
fair partnerships for local development to improve natural resources
sustainability in Palawan, Philippines.
The LPF project built upon the work already undertaken by CIFOR’s Adaptive
Collaborative Management (ACM) project. Since the ACM project ended in 2002,
many changes have taken place. The communities have developed new priorities,
faced new challenges and problems but also new opportunities have arisen due to
changes in policies and regulations. On January 2004, the LPF project started
working in the site to challenge the local communities and stakeholders to find
the means to resolve these new problems.
