Partnership between communities and acacia pulp plantation in South Sumatra

Objective

The three key issues of this case are first the benefit sharing among the community members, second the partnership schemes between the communities and MHP and last the land security and ownership.

The overall case study objective is to contribute to the improved livelihood of communities and to the sustainable forest plantation in South Sumatra.

The purpose of this case is improved (fair) partnership between the company and the communities. And the aimed key result is the improved stakeholders’ capacity to adapt to change.

To achieve these objectives, this case study intends to:

  • Improve capacities of stakeholders to negotiate and come up with agreements and/or to re-negotiate rules and agreements on forest management as partnerships;
  • Participate or create forums for stakeholders to communicate and share views at different levels;
  • Produce practical guidelines and tools to facilitate collective action for forest or renewable resources management.
