Muhammad Rakib is a farmer and entrepreneur from Sumbawa, Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia. He was born and raised there. He started a honey group in Sumbawa in 2005 and later joined the Jaringan Madu Hutan Sumbawa (JMHS) or the Sumbawa Forest Honey Network in 2007 of which he is now the president. JMHS has a membership of over 400 persons composed of 12 honey groups and 2 forestry cooperatives which covers an area of 25,000 has. JMHS is concerned that the forest is protected so there is enough nectar for foraging bees. They also use sustainable harvest methods and hygienic means of processing forest honey.
Sumbawa is very well known across the country for its good quality honey. The company, AMWAY, chose to distribute JMHS honey across Indonesia for its unique taste and stable production. JMHS produces about 15 tons of honey a year; a portion of which is sold to AMWAY. In 2011, JMHS was successful in securing the Geographic Indications recognition for Sumbawa honey. JMHS is a member of the national forest network Indonesia (JMHI). JMHI is a network of 9 honey farmer groups and their support agencies. It supports over 1000 honey farmers.
