Implementing FAO’s Global Plan of Action for the conservation, sustainable use and development of forest genetic resources in Asia

The purpose of the side event was to inform participants of the key findings of the first State of the World’s Forest Genetic Resources (SoW-FGR) report, which will be released in summer, 2014, and the associated Global Plan of Action (GPA) for the conservation, sustainable use and development of forest genetic resources, which has been approved by the FAO Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, and the Intergovernmental Working Group on Forest Genetic Resources.

The one hour session consisted of three short presentations:

  1. State of the World’s Forest Genetic Resources report: Key findings – Douglas McGuire, FAO
  2. Global Plan of Action for the conservation sustainable use and development of forest genetic resources: Overview and relevance to the region – Judy Loo, Bioversity International
  3. Capacity-building workshop to support achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets on ecosystem conservation and restoration: Outcomes relevant to GPA – Riina Jalonen, Bioversity International

A short discussion/question period followed.
